Chinoiseries

In 1990, Mathilde Monnier and Louis Clavis create Chinoiserie, a choreographic and musical duo. The performance is a crucial piece of work, most perfectly illustrating a collaboration that is to develop later in two other plays, Face Nord and Ainsi de Suite.

The object of this film relies on this joint piece of work. Chinoiserie thus becomes the fabric and the object enabling, in a first phase, to present two creators around a common work, while going through a few questions about their encounter.
In a second phase, it is an opportunity to analse very closely the play, to dissect that piece of work in order to question the infinite relationship between dance and music.

While defining these different ways of creating matter, the film builds itself as explorations progress and invites the audience to see and to hear.
Pleasure to discover two strong personalities, from the backstage intimacy to the rehearsals, from the performance to the reflections, the movements of the mind around a live show.
