Snapshots of Mexico

Photography is a medium that connects the artist, reality, and the viewer. In this documentary series, it is the photographers themselves who become the medium—the gateway into a little-known and intriguing world: the complex and diverse, magical and violent Mexico.

Drenched in violence and corruption, Mexico is also a symbol of resistance and a wellspring of creativity, particularly embodied by its photographers. These artists narrate the story of contemporary Mexico and its major issues at the heart of a turbulent and complex continent.

The film delves into the searing reality of borders, migration flows, and the surrounding violence; identity issues—whether ethnic, social, cultural, or religious; the growing economic disparities; the drug trafficking and its accompanying violence; and the challenges of a dying rural landscape confronted by rampant urbanization driven by economic liberalism. These are the pressing issues facing modern Mexico.

This film is a nuanced journey across Mexico, from the northern border with America and its ever-expanding wall, to the southern province of Chiapas.
