Would Charles be the “Peripheral Prince“, reduced to the status of a media and tourist attraction? Or does the Royal Family, and its heir apparent, still have meaning in today’s world?
What has this Prince of the world’s most famous Royal Family witnessed – and more importantly, what has he become – in almost 60 years as heir apparent?
This project is the tale of the life of a 62-year-old Prince still waiting for a crown, while trying, at the same time, to build and control his own destiny.
He refuses to live by rules set by communication departments, which mark anniversaries, weddings, deaths and accessions to new titles like clockwork, as he refutes the tabloids, which – in perfectly bad faith – slanderously invade his privacy and distort his personal and professional commitments to the point of caricature.
The film follows the path, from childhood to adulthood, of the life of a man who is already the oldest Prince of Wales since the title has been given to heirs apparent to the English throne. In the near future, from 18 September 2013 onwards, he could also become the oldest person ever to ascend to the title King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in the history of British royalty.

An astonishing wealth of archives and excerpts from interviews with Charles himself at various stages of his life (…) This documentary gradually outlines the contours of a personality consumed by his own family, struggling with his fate, burdened by the weight of duty, yet saved by a constant, subtle, and refined sense of humor. So British.
